2nd week

how can i forget, this is exactly the second week after the fracture. as a "2nd anniversay" special, i decided to retell the amazing story of Fabian's freaky fracture...haaaahaaaa, alliteration.

tuesday, 17th may 2005

morning: about 8-9am
venue:kilo SOC ground
we were in our details, couldn't forget my detail number, no. 29. lining up in front of the low wall...ha. was thinking to myself, 'maybe this time i could clear it. with SBO?' Not... yeap, my pathetic jumps to clear the monolithic cement wall was rather useless. so, proceeded to the next station: parallel bars. 'yes, i could clear it the previous time, so i think i could clear it now.' think again dumbo, u are in SBO now. yep, i couldn't clear it. so, i '1000-ed, 2000-ed, 3000-ed...14000-ed, 15000-ed' in front of lawrence. then proceeded to the 3rd station, the fracturenator(it's actually the beam with the barb wire over it).

'chicken feet' i thought. finally somehting i could clear. ha...hell i was wrong. saw TC jumped over it first. but he kena scolded by daniel for not doing it properly. so now my turn lor. paused a while, ran, left feet went up the beam, the right immediately went up, cleared the wires and landed on the ground. "craaaaack" 'oh no'was the only thing that i heard coming into my head before i collapsed on the grass in pain...struggled there for a while before daniel spotted me and started asking was the hell happened. 'i think i broke my leg'i manage to sputter. 'break ur leg?! if u break ur leg wun be like that one! get up! get up la!'as daniel said that he pulled me by the arm and i struggled, with my left leg to get off the great grassy field that i will forever miss. 'attend b!!! attend b!' daniel shouted. then saw jian zhong running towards me. 'fabian?! wad happened?' jian zhong said, clearly worried for me. i just replied 'think i broke my leg'. 'oh no' i think he said that. then i was at the training shed with teng chi and some of the PCs. 'please GOD, dun let it be a fracture, i want to do range tml!' then one of the FS came, i removed my boots, sbo and socks. warrant heng asked me how was the pain and etc. i said 'think i heard a crack'. he said 'sure is pe cah('break' in malay)'. the FS then felt my right leg for any irregularities and found a bump near my ankle followed by a depression. 'send him to the MO' was his reply.

ok lor, rahul and jonathan took me to the rover. the rover sent me straight to the medical centre. hopped like a toot in the medical centre...pple were staring...i was the only one in long 4 without boots and socks. sat next to these bunch of leopard guys. think i saw one one them before when i reported sick for cough and flu weeks earlier. my number was called...844. some of them were unhappy that their numbers were skipped...some evens aid saomething abt me chao keng-ing when i hopped into the room. i looked like a toot. ok la...nothing much happened in the room. the MO asked me to go to the x ray room...hopped to the x ray room. i looked like a toot. pple were staring agian. took x ray. came out in a wheelchair. gasps, stares, were all targetted at me as i got wheeled out of the x ray room. waited. got called back to the MO room. 'i see that ur leg is fracture' said the MO(he din really say this tho). i stared at the x ray in shock. the bones were sooooo out of place. blablabla...pple entering the room started to ask me questions...blablabla. went out of the room. the leopard guys started to interrogate me on wad happened. told them, i did. shocked, they were. waited for jonathan to come. while waiting, thoughts on whether i will have to recourse or able to POP crossed my mind like tokyo's subway system. yong jian came, took my name, parents number and asked me some stuff...gaev me a reassurring pat and left. then jonathan came in smart four and all with my field pack. 2 medics came and shuttled me off to the ferry terminal. one of them was quite nice, think his name was W.W. Chua, he sort of kept me entertained while i was in the ferry and during the trip to CGH. btw, i felt quite dua pai cuz they had to hold the ferry for me to board.

upon reaching CGH, i waited for my turn with jonathan. he is very very quiet. dunno wad he is thinking either. so i decided to break the ice to ask him NJ stuff, as he himself is an ex-NJCian. conversation was quite boring, so pretended to watch the hospital TV. i think throughout the whole journey up till now, i saw him am chio a couple of times. ok, it was my turn and the nurses put a 'cast' on my leg and 'taught' me how to use the crutches. they really did a bad job. haiz...but cannot blame them. waited again...for my father. jonathan was really quiet. fetched him back to SFT. dropped him at the bus stop with the wheelchair. 'thank you sgt'i said. he just did a gesture and nothing else. as the car drove away from the SFT, saw him cough abit...think he was sick that day.

ok, end of story. tml i will be going back to CGH to get the mc extension...ha...

korean food in singapore is over-priced

yesterday went to crystal jade korean restaurant to eat dinner, 2nd time there...i like korean food , but it simply doesn't deserve to be priced that ex...cuz, for one simple fact: they taste like hawker or food court food. however, some dishes are really not bad...like the stewed beef. other than that...i think the other food that they sell are definitely over priced...that's why din eat much yesterday. Jap food is much cheaper... :)

Can't Stop...

...thinking abt the pple in tekong...haiz...sad sad...it's preplanned i guess. GOD knew that i wanted to have a slack life in NS to learn the stuff that i want during my NS period, and as i definitely couldn't get into command school, a fracture in the leg may be his reason of letting me have what i wanted and at the same time let me learn not to take things(my legs) for granted. maybe it's also a chacne for me to be more independent. well, nevertheless, whatever happens to me has a purpose, and come to think of it(like i have said so many times before), this fracture is a blessing in disguise. It is quite a new experience in my life.

oh yeah...yesterday Faizan called me at night from tekong, couldn't recognise his voice at first cuz it sounded very different. ha. anyway, thanks again to the pple in tekong for showing concern! tml my MC will be extended...dunno for how long tho...

Bad News...

stupid...went for checkup today, took xray, and realised that the bone din heal much...equally spastic looking as 2weeks ago, so 2 more weeks mc given for now...wonder if my bone has any more growing powers left..."babablack sheep have u any bone? yes sir, yes sir, 3 bags full, then how come my leg still cannot heal? because the bone all expired liaoz...babablack sheep have u any bone? no sir no sir, none for u". ha

...carrie fisher looks so old...there was no photoshop back then in the 70s and 80s...hahaz...i did some photoshop magic(altho it's not as pro as xiaxue's) and it managed to help carrie fisher look years younger). ha...first, her wrinkles around her eyes are gone, her face looks slimmer and overall...she looks better la...haha. enjoy. :)

My first music storage device!

believe me, i have never owned a disk man, walkman or mp3 player...until now! that is, i got myself a Creative Zen Neeon today. note that i use a capital "c" for Creative, cuz it's a local brand, and i support local brands...haha). i am sort of like charging the player now...can't wait to listen to it...ha.

star wars continued

I suppose the retro star wars was not as bad after all...it's pretty exciting and funny as compared to the modern ones actaully...i was like "so retro" while watching episode 4:a new hope, yesterday. the most retro thing abt epi 4 is the in flight control boards and radar tracking devices...the images on the screen are so pre-windows, very DOS-like...something out of a PAC man game(perhaps loyal star wars fans have already noticed this, but sorry, i ain't one, so forgive me for being so surprised). i can't help but notice the retro look on all the characters, abt 60% of the male characters has those 70s moustache and those long, near shoulder length hair which my dad use to sport...hahaz...ya la, i know, it was IN during that time...

anyway, today went out for a while..to gwc...to eat...again...children like to stare at my crutches...forgive them, i will(haha...so yoda-ish).

star wars mistake

shit...dun feel like typing...cuz i typed something earlier...but it got deleted cuz i din save it...bah...it's abt star wars la...how the prequels look more stylo and advanced than the sequels...hahah...ya...damn buay song now...see if got time i will remember wad i wrote last time and ya...if got time i will type it out...

anyway, the gist of wad i typed was the difference in the look of the only female lead characters in the star wars sequels and prequels, in which the sequels having a more retro look than that of the prequels where in real life...this shouldn't be the case right? it's like as if the empire retrofied the entire galaxy... ha...show u eg. later. with the help of princess leia(retro) and padme amidala(stylo). note that the former is supposed to be the latter's daughter in the star wars saga.

Yupz, the acceptance letter from NUS has finally arrived...hahaz...but...i am confused...i am in a dillema...should i apply for NTU next year and reject this course? Since NTU's course is much more fun and i like the school's architecture...damn stylo and futuristic...

Yes it is!!! But i am confused if i should accept this course or apply for NTU's SADM course next year...

9th day in cast...

1st week

yes, it's been one week since i fractured my leg...time was abt 8plus am...May 17th 2005, tuesday.
will never forget that day...that day will mark the pre-fracture and post fracture period of my life...

oh yeah...the pain is almost gone, except for the irritating aching(suan as in sour)sensation that is lingering in the ankle area of my leg...just pray that in the upcoming appointment, i would be able to remove the bloody cast, so that i can hop onto a ferry at SFT and go back to tekong...

8th day in cast...

I hated salads...not anymore, i think they taste well...not too bad...quite delicious actually...here's a snippet of the salad that i normally eat...hahaz...


today's breakfast...it's comprises of cabbage, carrots, chicken(3Cs) and those tiny tomatoes, under the 3Cs...oh yeah..not forgetting the wonderful milk and remote control(not that i eat it tho).

Master of the covered walkways

After days of slacking and vegetating(courtesy of the beloved ms sharon phua), at home, i finally stepped out of my house(i can almost hear dong li huo che's "chu lu" playing in the background)...haha.

First went to collect my digi cam from nick, my army buddy. then later sent him and guosheng home...haiz...heard alot if stories from them..haiz...then later went to GWC to eat Jap food...hahaz...surprisingly, my appetite fell like shit...ate very very little...but can go out worth it already...heh.

oh yeah...while sitting in the car from my home to white sands, i cannot help but realise that singapore is FULL of covered walkways!!! Maybe u have noticed but this little enlightening thought only managed to find it's way into the crevice of my mind this afternoon...i guess singapore is the expert in building covered walkways.

ok, dun believe me...let's try this game. go to any HDB estate with a camera. close ur eyes and snap away happily(use a digi cam if u dun wanna waste film). ok, now load ur photos on ur comp and voila! trust me, at least 60% of the shots u will find covered walkways... ok, maybe this is not convincing enough. if u have a car, and a free day...take a drive around singapore...well...and u should know wad to find.

it's only when i dun have anything to do that such minute and insignificant details of singapore comes into my mind. weird huh... :S

5th day in cast...

Should i or should i not...

watch star wars?! "it's star wars for goodness sake Fabian!" i told myself. "it's the last episode too!", i hear myself again. I am not a mega star wars fan or wad, but getting to know how Anakin fell to the dark side and became Darth Vader always was something i wanted an answer to. But the main obstacle that keeps me from the cinema is my leg!!! see how la...i still got plenty of time at home...*suddenly my conscience interrupted*..."but dun u want to be one of the 1st few to catch it?". Ha, dear conscience, dun you know that millions have already watched it...ha...*dumps conscience back to oblivion* sometimes i really contradict myself...haiz....

5th day in cast...

New Diet sia!

haha...my diet for the next few weeks will be salads and meat that is boiled or steamed...heh...eating as little carbo as i can. its actually not bad...oh yeah...i will be drinking milk more often now...ha. k...off to consume my salad now.

4th day in cast...

I changed my cast!

Ha...went to Mount Elizabeth today to change my cast...and boy, it's much sturdier and the pain is lesser now...the one that they gave me at changi gen hospital is rather flimsy...no support given to the fractured leg at all...sigh...but the new cast cost quite a sum...hope it will help accelerate the speed of healing. oh yeah...the freaky thing is that when i saw the specialist today...he asked me "who kicked you?". my reply was "nobody". then he carried on explaining that the injury that i sustained could only be caused by someone or something had impacted the fractured area. but there was none! so...this led me to this chilling conclusion: was it a ghost kick?! i highly doubt it...but who knows... :S

2nd day in cast...

The little things in life

haiz...after being semi crippled for one day...i realised that it is very difficult to do even the simplest things...huge effort is required even for simple actions like standing up. i think the most troublesome thing is going to toilet...bah...esp taking a bath...have to cover the bloody cast in plastic to prevent moisture from getting in touch with it...sian...now the cast weighs a ton...and i can't turn to sleep on my side!!!!!

Legs

I think i may have some probelm with my legs...just 3weeks ago i had a toe infection which was just as painful and irritating...F...(ouch...pain...)...ok...nuff siad...back to thinking of new arty ideas...going into arty mood now...

the pain...

i feel like the little mermaid who just got her feet....every movement made by my right leg will cause a pain only can be described as.....ARGH!!!!!! crap! i really miss my frens back at tekong...just let me go back...i dun mind going back in crutches!!! haiz...i din even have a chance to say goodbye to them yesterday...i was just whisked to the medical centre and to changi hospital yesterday...right after my fracture...i din really fall but the impact exerted on my right leg caused this fracture...haiz...must say a big thank you to jonathan...altho i wasn;t really close to him, he waited for the procedures yesterday to be completed before reporting back to tekong. he hasn't even had his lunch yet...haiz...wonder when i can ever see the pple i had so abruptly left yesterday...this is one sad thing happening to me....

Blessing in Disguise? Maybe...

once again...i am ranting abt my recent(very recent indeed) fracture...it's really "F"ed up...but there may be some good things to it...

1st: I can continue on my art work...the smile:)lies. I was thinking of doing a male and female series...male(my male frens) and female(my female frens, quite 'duh' actaully)...i can slowly plan now...

2nd: Ponder abt the nitty gritty things in life...eg...how does calcium help strenghten ur bones?

3rd: compile a "MC daze" diary...and hope fully it gets made into a movie...HA....HA....

4th: wonder why the crutches are so light...

5th: wonder why ur bones are not that strong after all...(yeah right...10 times stronger than steel)

6th: probably able eat all the junk food that i want(but i am not going to do so...in doing so i will only put back the 10kg that i have lost in bmt)

Lastly: can i survive this 2 months? it's still a question mark...

the pain, the agony, the regret

the pain:
yes, obviously u will feel some pain when u fracture the part of ur body which supports half of the 66kg of my body weight.

the agony: yes...it has to do with the pain...and the worst thing is not being able to see your frens while being confined at home...yes...for a minimum of 2months...

the regret:yes, not being able to POP witht he rest is definitely a huge regret...how i wished i was in the company next door to mine...completed their range last week already...while mine(bloddy hell) is tml...haiz...let's hope they let me POP..................... :(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(

Fracture

hi, the tile of this post says it all...yes...my poor fibula(i think it's spelt this way) snapped when i jumped from the third station of SOC...sooooooooooo....yup....2 plus weeks to pop and i am now out of course...sad...yes...definitely...but wad to do???? now i got a piece of giant POP(plaster of paris, and how ironic that i will not be POPing....) ,sauy.... the injured part hurts alot!!!everytime i feel the thing hurting, i will have the urge to say "F***". but, i must know that it's no one's fault but mine...i also think it's like somekind of curse...dunno who will be next....argh....

ok...now "hello" can't work...maybe i wil have time to learn html now...hahaz...btw, if they want to have bdae party, can come to my house....ha...but i desperately want to watch star wars!!!!!!! shit la....damn shit la....this is very very shitty...argharghargharghargharghargharghargharghargharghargharghargh!!!!

Ever wondered...

why i chose "smile-lies" as my blog title? well...a smile is like a facade, hiding the truth to what you really feel. philosophical sia...haha...it was inspired after i did my A levels art project...a weird and freaky installation that puts the viewer into a state of either shock or uneasiness. why? cuz there are 13 similar black and white self portraits staring back at the viewer the moment he/she steps into the viewing chamber...

so, this blog shall trace this series of work called "smile lies" in which the 1st series has been done. enjoy...:)
